Joined Benefices

From the 1 December the Benefices of S. Michael’s and S. Paul’s were joined.

Whereas each parish will remain separate and distinct, with its own churchwardens and PCC., Father Robert Fayers became the first Vicar of the new Benefice, Father Mark Lyon the first stipendiary and Father John Baldy the first non-stipendiary Assistant Curate. The Vicarage of the new Benefice is the former S. Michael’s parsonage in Montpelier Villas, which will come to be known, simply, as  ‘The Vicarage.’ The former S. Paul’s Vicarage returns to the Diocese.

The Patrons of the United Benefice [who will appoint the next Vicar] will be the Society for the Maintenance of the Faith.

The title of the new Benefice is: Brighton S. Michael and All Angels and S. Paul. Although each parish remains distinct it is hoped the uniting will lead to even more working together, sharing resources, and to members of the two congregations getting to know each other better.
